Associates (Staff)
This is the starting level position at the company. No experience is needed for this job. Once you get the job you’ll go through the training programme which includes online and on-the-job training.
On-the-job training is about getting trained in your selected field of work. It may be cleaning, working in the kitchen or on the floor, or as a bar/hotel staff.
You will also receive frequent updates and analyses on your development which is also an important part of this training.
Once you complete the training and learn all the basics, you will become a proficient associate.

Team Leaders
To progress from Associate to Team Leader, you first need to complete the Associate training and gain skills. Then, you’ll take up the team leader programme to enter into training.
You have to be fully trained in areas like instructing and leading your team to become a team leader at a kitchen, bar or hotel.
Shift Leaders
To be promoted internally as a Shift Leader, you should have finished both Associate and Team Leader training.
Next up, the Shift leader academy will train you with hands-on experience on how to run a shift, and manage the team and customers. Along with that, you’ll also have online and classroom-based training to run the shifts perfectly.
Managers
For getting to the Shift, Kitchen or Hotel Manager post, you need to finish all the Associate, Team Leader and Shift Leader training. And, you must have obtained essential skills while in those positions.
With the Management academy training programme, you’ll go through hands-on projects, and in-class and online training.
Also, you’ll experience financial and people management, and the recruitment process. As this is a very key role, you should have thorough knowledge and experience in those aspects.
Pub Manager
For this post, Wetherspoon doesn’t recruit people from outside. They fill these openings internally.
You should progress through all the above training levels and positions to reach here.
